Psalm 27
ReplyDeleteThe LORD is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
It's really interesting to hear this Psalm of David after reading about the Israelite's story in Exodus today. David obviously loved God. His love for God gave Him peace and he understood that God loved him back. The Israelites didn't seem to have this same kind of relationship with God. Right after God does this HUGE miracle by parting the Red Sea, the Israelites are constantly in fear that God will not provide for them. David understand that God will not abandon him, but the Israelites just seemed to be waiting to find out that God really just didn't care about them.
The big contrast here is where their hearts are. The Israelites hearts were obviously one themselves all the time. They couldn't see God's love in everything that He had done for them. David's heart belonged to God and he seemed to walk in a lot of peace because of his understanding of how much God loved and cared for him.
I can see this contrast in my life when I choose to spend time with God and when I don't. When I hang out with Jesus, it seems like nothing can get me down. My confidence in His provision is very high. But when I avoid God for a period of time I start to doubt things and begin to worry. I can see a lot of this contrast all through the Bible.
