Ah yes, the parts of scripture that we all like to read – the proscriptions for building the tabernacle in Exodus. I know that teachers have pulled all kinds of things out of teachings on the tabernacle but one thing hits me as I read this. God was completely involved in the building of the tabernacle, giving very precise directions on how it was to be built. As we’ve been reading in Genesis and now Exodus God get’s pretty specific in his dealings with humanity. He doesn’t just tell Moses and the Israelites to build him a big tent in the desert. He gives them specifics. He gives them a liturgy to follow. To me this says something about God: He is very interested in the very granular things of this life. He is in the details. He loves and is merciful but doesn’t forget the one who’s alone, or the widow or the orphan. Nor does he forget those who do evil and injustice on the earth. As humans we can lose people in the details. Why, sometimes I can forget a persons name a week after meeting them at church. But God, he remembers all, he sees all and he is involved in the details of our lives.
ReplyDeleteA more powerful testimony to God's goodness would be hard to find here in the Psalms. Verse 7 says, I am overcome with joy because of your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul. Wow! This may be one of my favorite verses in the Psalms.
