I love the book of Judges. It is by far, the most wild and wooly of the books in the Bible. I find it fascinating the roller coaster ride Israel goes through with God and following the decrees given by Him through the Mosaic law. The stories in this book could easily be made into different movies and in fact, have been in the past. One of the things that strikes me in this passage today is how after a generation passes away a new one comes along that "does not know the Lord" and so turns from God and his commandments and worships idols. It makes you wonder about the importance of raising your children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
ReplyDeleteThanks, occasionally I feel grumbly about the amount of money, energy and time that kids "require" and this encourages me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in Luke it amazes me that although the disciples were so lacking in understanding who Jesus was, He "eagerly" looked forward to the last earthly Passover with them (guess it was both the meaningfulness of Passover itself and the fellowship as well). In spite of the fact that Jesus knew his friends would all run away within hours, he labeled them as those who had stood by faithfully in His trials. And I'm dying of curiosity who the plural "you" is that Satan has asked permission to sift like wheat: Simon and Judas? All the apostles?
