So....this is my first time blogging. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've always felt so badly for Leah... I mean, her name even meant "cow!" (Thanks a lot, Dad!) I wonder how she felt the morning after she and Jacob were married....or as they were getting married...knowing she was not the one he had chosen or loved. If this is the best she can get from her dad - for him to trick some schlep into marrying her...this is her value. She only had Jacob for a week before her sister arrived and then things really got interesting. The Psalm reading for today says that God loves justice, so He blessed her with sons. She would have value to her husband and a place in his home, if not in his heart. I'm glad her heavenly father took better care of her than her earthly father. There are many people who need to know that these days, huh? I'm so glad that He is a wonderful and caring Father. Thanks, God, for being a Dad we can count on.
Matthew 9:36
ReplyDeleteWhen Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
This verse seems to echo the emotions of Houston area Youth Pastors that I know. The younger generation seems to be so proud of their knowledge and understanding of life, yet they look so confused and lost... but they don't seem to know it or admit it. Many are Fatherless and unaware of the emotional instability that they suffer from. Many others are raised off of the "power of suggestion" sent from different sources other than their parents. Teenagers are truly confused and need a strong voice of truth and love to ground them and give them confidence and hope. This next verse seems really important to me for Youth Pastors to grab onto:
Matthew 9:37-38
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
Anyone who has worked with teenagers knows that no one has as much influence on other teenagers as one of their peers. Students have this unbreakable bond within their generation and they don't fully trust anyone who is not in the trenches with them. So when I read this verse, I feel like praying out "God, You are the Lord of the harvest. Please raise up students to work the fields that they live in everyday."
As a Youth Pastor, it takes such a burden off of me to here Jesus advice on how to deal with the weight of this.
Please pray for our younger generation regularly. They really do need it!
