This is a tool to help you read through the Bible in a year. Each day there is a reading from The Old Testament, The New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. There is also a place to add comments on what you've read. Just click on the date and you will see any comments posted. Click the scripture verses to read the passage.
The story of Joseph helps me to see how God's timing can be much slower than ours. Joseph was left in prison for a long time - 2 years! What was he thinking during that time? What was God doing in him? It seems like such a big chunk of his life. I know if I had to be in prison (where it seemed I was not able to DO anything) that would seem like an eternity.
ReplyDeleteYes, Joseph's story is one of pain and betrayal. One cannot really understand betrayal until it happens to you. And of course, it goes without saying that you can only be betrayed by someone that you trust and/or love. This story really shows that sometimes we have to go through great trial and tribulation before we receive the promise or reach the promised land.
ReplyDeleteMatthew 13:11-13
ReplyDeleteJesus told His disciples, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. That is why I use these parables,
For they look, but they don’t really see.
They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.
This whole section of Matthew is fascinating to me. I grew up in church and I was taught some stuff that I later found contradicted the Bible. These verses make a really important statement when it says,
"To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them."
When the Bible is intellectualized through a systematic process, it seems to confuse more people than it helps, but when the Bible is processed through a love for God's Kingdom and people, it seems to overflow people's hearts with hope, wisdom, and guidance.
I know Jesus thought this was cool because he made this statement earlier on,
Matthew 11:25-26
At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!
We don't have to have a degree to feel worthy of understanding the Bible... just a true desire for God to reveal it to us makes it come alive. Thank God for that!
Anyone can do it.
