  1. Matthew 16:24-25
Jesus said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it."

I think this is one of the most profound statements that Jesus ever made. It seems that it's not as easy as reciting a prayer from someone n order to get into heaven. It takes a real initial commitment to follow and completely surrender to Jesus in order to be his disciple and that cannot be faked. I don't believe this means that when we become selfish and inward focused we are no longer his disciples because that contradicts other passages. But it seems that there has to be a real commitment to be willing to surrender ourselves to Jesus and die to our selfishness. This is such a huge statement.

It makes me sad when people think they are Christians because they recited a prayer from a TV pastor because they are afraid of death. I know that someone can come to Christ through a prayer, but it is not the prayer that waves them.

But I don't think heaven is a place for people who are afraid of death and willing to say anything to get out of it. Heaven is place for those who have already experience the death of their will and accepted Jesus' claims to be the son of God and the only way to God and they love Him.
