This is a tool to help you read through the Bible in a year. Each day there is a reading from The Old Testament, The New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. There is also a place to add comments on what you've read. Just click on the date and you will see any comments posted. Click the scripture verses to read the passage.
I am really enjoying this One Year Bible Initiative... even though I can already see that it is going to take me more than a year to get through it... but that's ok.
ReplyDeleteToday's reading had two of my favorite passages in them. First off, Proverbs 3 is so important to me that I actually have a pair of Converses that it had "PROVERBS 3" inscribed into to help me remember these verses.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
Those verses sum up my struggles as a follower of Christ. I always try to figure things out on my own and then when I screw them up, I come back and ask for God to fix it and show me which path to take because my wisdom is really shallow. The older I get, the more I learn to seek him out first, but I still screw this up a lot.
The other part that I loved about today's reading (actually I enjoyed ALL of it) was the temptation of Jesus in Matthew. This story never gets old to me. In my opinion, it reveals more about Satan than any other passage. He tries to tempt Jesus with his 3 greatest tools; comfort, pride, and power. It also shows how he can take scripture and twist it to mean something else. He is the father of lies and sick beyond all comprehension.
I think it is interesting that the first temptation was not a temptation to sin. Eating bread was not a sin. He was just trying to get Jesus to not do God's will, which was to fast at this particular moment in time. It makes me wonder how many times Satan has distracted me from God's will by using this method. Satan makes comfort seem like something we deserve. I know I fall for it all the time and I end up missing God's will because I wanted to be comfortable, which isn't really a sin... it's just not always God's will. Which brings me back to those verses in Proverbs 3!
I love the bible!
