The story of the walk to Emmaus gives us an analogy of how easy it is for us to miss Jesus in the situations and circumstances of life. We can get so focused on the wrong thing, as these disciples of Jesus were (they had been discussing why Jesus, whom they thought was the messiah, did not restore Israel to its former glory but was crucified like a criminal. This didn't gel with their ideas and theology about the messiah. In the midst of this they have the messiah walking alongside of them, opening the scriptures and yet they didn't recognize him. May we not be the same. May we always recognize Christ in our midst and Christ at work around us.
